Policies governing network resources

February 10, 2006 by Jon

In today’s meeting we examined the policies discussed in the last meeting. It was decided that Janet and I would draft a survey to be sent to the OhioFive and individuals we know at other schools. The survey will ask the schools for information on their

  • Acceptable Use Policy
  • Podcast Policy
  • Blogging Policy
  • Web site Policy
  • Privacy Policy

After examining the policies we receive, the group will try to re-draft Wooster’s Acceptable Use Policy to provide a general outline of the rules and regualtions dealing with usage of College computers and network services. Once this is done the policies covering the other services will be re-drafted to refer to the new Acceptable Use Policy and to provide more specific guidelines for the particular service covered by the policy.

Some issues that came up include: fitting the policies into the work being done on the Wooster Ethic, creating signs to alert users to the existence of the policies and other network issues (collaborative effort with OhioFive?), the fact that RIAA has contacted the College about potential illeagal song downloads, the issues of Fair Use and Copyright as they pertain to Podcasts, blogs, and websites.
