As I continue to think about the transition for the Wooster blog server, I went back through the WPMU forums. I’ll probably ask that we get the 100 big ones theme pack for the new server.
Investigating this lead to Premium WPMUDEV. It sounds great but $250 sounds steep. This is probably because I’m not thinking in terms of what our maintenance fees are for other software the schools uses. I just wonder if we would get our money’s worth. If they would do customization and additional features then it might be worth it. In particular if they would work on bettering LDAP integration then I’d be very interested.

Jon,
Not to muddy the waters or anything (and I know WP is da bomb), but have you ever considered something like Liferay.com to power your Instructional portal?
Heavy duty CMS meets social networking utility. Very 2.0ish.

Nah, that seems like something geared more toward the college as a whole. I also am tending to shy away from apps that try to be an all-in-one solution. Moodle has blogging capabilities and wiki capabilities, but neither compare to a dedicated blogging platform like WordPress or wiki like Confluence. So I lean more toward something like Netvibes that lets me pick the best app for the job and then connect them all in one place.
Ahhh…the ultimate mashup. I guess it’sall dependent on your goals.
